Job Description

The Cooperative Controller is responsible for directing and supervising the efficient operations of the Financial and Operational Controller’s areas, Deduction Management Credit and Collections, Subsidiary Companies, and treasury function. This is a position that requires entrepreneurial, management and accounting skills. This position will manage the timely and accurate creation of financial reports, key performance metrics of on-going production results and take a leadership role to drive productive projects, eliminate inefficiencies and leverage best practices along with the staff reporting directly to them. This position will interface with cross-functional peers and managers and have an opportunity to contribute across various business challenges.

Job Requirements

Communicate expectations by evaluating performance, providing timely feedback, training and coaching, and recommending personnel actions for assigned staff.
Ensure compliance with policies, safety procedures, and fair employment practices.
Maintain a good working relationship with principle bank and ensure CROPP has the most up to date technology and controls available.
Develop processes and procedures in areas of supervision.
Responsible for assuring that proper internal controls are in place in areas of supervision.
Identifies and implements measurement standards to ensure business objectives are met for area of supervision.
Facilitate continuous improvement in area of supervision by assessing the business needs and providing process and best practice solutions.
Work with business units to ensure that adequate provisions are maintained for major items of business expenditure like trade, promotional expenditures and advertising.
Review assigned schedules and reconciliations prepared by staff and other accounting personnel to meet internal and external audit requirements.
Ensure compliance with federal, state and local permits and tax requirements.
Coordination with the Financial Controller, Operational Controller, Budgeting, Forecasting and Costing Director and CFO in the preparation of financial period closing activities, journal entries and variance analysis.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in Executive Accounting Team (EAT).
Attend Accounting Management Team (AMT).
Assist CFO as needed.
Participate in special projects and cross departmental teams as needed.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A minimum of a four year degree in accounting, finance or related field and 15 plus years of accounting work experience with exposure to inventory management, accounts payable, invoice and billing, taxation and IRS compliance, fixed assets, purchasing, retail deduction management and credit and collections, along with general accounting.
A minimum of 10 years of progressive supervisory experience.
A CPA/CMA/MBA is preferred.
Practical accounting knowledge and skills including knowledge of GAAP is required and knowledge of IFRS is desired.
Understanding of Cooperative Principles.
Must be well organized, detail oriented, and accurate.
Must have demonstrated ability to manage projects.
Must have demonstrated software knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, ERP, Fixed Assets and 1099s.
Knowledge of retail food industry and/or dairy is preferred.
Must be able to cover all hours of operation including weekends as needed at any CROPP facility.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to active listen, problem solve, and communicate well with other departments is required.
Demonstrate the ability to remain current on all new emerging trends and relevant changes that impact accounting, financial reporting, tax laws and regulation and other compliance issues.
Ability to manage, adapt and promote change.
